Mentoring Program

Guided by its mission to give value to its members that will promote professional growth, the association initiated in November 2006, the UPAA Toronto Mentoring Program, which aims to facilitate the entry of UPAA alumni into their professions and jobs of choice by matching them with mentors with similar professional experience. A first of its kind for an alumni association, UPAA Toronto taps its network of members who offer support and guidance to help other members make informed career choices, leading to employment in their chosen fields.

Support for UPAA Toronto Members

Integration in the professional labour market is one of the many barriers faced by new immigrants here in Canada. The objective of the program is to provide assistance to overcome such barriers in their search for acceptance in their profession and the wider community. Participants to the UPAA Toronto Mentoring Program (UPAA TMP) must be members of UPAA Toronto with employment settlement needs and are qualified to work in Canada. Acceptance requires commitment to the conditions of the mentoring program.

Making a Difference by becoming a Mentor

Volunteering to become a Mentor is not only an opportunity to give back to UP, but more so an opportunity to make a difference to another person’s life.

Mentors should be members of UPAA Toronto, have at least three years Canadian experience in their fields and a demonstrated understanding of the Canadian workplace culture and working knowledge of the requirements to meet the market demands. Mentors are to provide information about the professional requirements, programs and employment options related to the profession, workplace cultures and norms, as well as help build professional networks for the protégée.

Members volunteering as mentors shall undergo a Training-the-Mentor workshop to be facilitated by the program committee. For any interest on further details of the program, please contact us.
