Education (Heritage Library)

The Heritage Library was conceived to provide the Filipino community in the GTA with an extensive source of information about all things Filipino (history, people, economy, government, politics, arts and culture). This Filipiniana Collection is a collaborative project of the FCT, UPAA Toronto and Folklorico under the chairmanship of Mary Ann San Juan (assisted by volunteers). It is housed in the Filipino Centre Toronto.

The Heritage Library was the brain child of Nilo Espino, a former UPAA Toronto Council member. He formulated the Heritage Library methodology, solicited the initial book donations (from the Ayala’s and the Zobel’s in the Philippines) and arranged the delivery of these books to the Filipino Center Toronto.

The project team continues to solicit and accept book donations and other Filipiniana materials to enhance the collection. Hopefully, the library will alleviate the scarcity of Philippine materials in the libraries in the GTA.
