Sketching from Life and 35th Anniversary Kick Off

The Philippine Artists Group will sketch a live professional model. This is our third time to hold this type of event with them. Nude painting/sketching of the human figure is a very old art practice; however, only UPians and artists at PAG hold this kind of event in our community.

We will congregate and have brunch at the main hall of KCCC; the artists and model will be in a smaller hall. We will be allowed to view model and artists at work. Right after the session, the artists will offer their art works at a special price to UPians. Part of the proceeds go to our fundraising.

Strict protocol will be observed. Please note there will be limited use of cameras. Children will not be allowed. We will post the protocol asap. Watch out for it.

While the last Kapihan ( picnic) was very successful, only 47 folks RSVP'ed, yet 79 came, thus some of the latecomers did not get the chance to enjoy many of the goodies.

We'd love to have a huge attendance, but the Food Committee needs to have an advance head count for food preparation. So please signify your plan to attend asap.

Kapihan Fee: $15.00

2011 Battle of the Iron Chefs

The venerable past presidents of UPAAT will compete in the barbecue cooking contest! Could be beef, chicken, or pork. They will prepare these fares in their secret barbecue recipes. You will be the judge - vote for the barbecue you like best. (There will be a lot of other food in the menu. Trust Terry Chua, the 2010 Champion Chef, and her cohorts, to stuff you the whole day with good food.)

Members of the Philippine Artists Group (PAG) headed by UPians Omel Masalunga and Romi MananQuil will join us - they will paint plein air. Artwork will be sold to UPians at a special price.

Winners Champion Chef and Runner-Up will be sketched on the spot by artists Romi and Omel. And there are more fun as usual...... door prizes, too....

See you all,

Rose Tijam

More than 160 UPians and family joined Summerfest last year - huge crowd! Wear you t-shirts,caps, let the UP banners fly! Council is working hard to make this event the biggest free of charge ( LIBRE po, walang bayad) picnic event - whole day of feasting and drinking ( water and pop only ha?) .... 2011 Tee UP High Golf Tournament

Combining Advertising with Altruism and Fun

UPAA Toronto will hold its 2nd Annual Benefit Golf Tournament – Tee UP High – on Saturday May 28, 2011. The purpose is to raise much needed funds to help improve tertiary education in the Philippines. University alumni groups in Toronto believe that we can help the country emancipate itself from chronic poverty, improve standard of living, and reduce people’s dependency on immigration for their basic survival.

Money raised through these tournaments will go to UPAA Toronto’s Endowment Fund which supports scholarships for needy but deserving students, as well as for professorial chairs that help retain valuable teaching staff. Visit the Tee UP High website for more information.

We appeal for your valuable support by becoming a tournament sponsor. Your assistance will go a very long way in helping us pave a better future for education in the Philippines.

Thank you.

Joseph Zagala
(UPAAT President 2009-2011)
